
Babu Kanshi Ram was born in January 1874 to Hazari Lal, a resident of Namhol in the erstwhile princely state of Kunihar. He got his early education in Ambala. He worked as a storekeeper at the US Club at Shimla and started working as the Head Clerk for the Trust of India in 1921. As resentment grew against the Thakur of Kunihar, Babuji inspired the farmers of the state to rise up against the Thakur. He spoke against the injustices of the Thakur and started gaining popular support.im their leader. Under Babuji's leadership, from October 1923 to July 1924, the farmers of Kunihar submitted numerous representations to the Thakur and the British in opposition to the upcoming Kunihar Settlement Report of 1924. Babu Kanshi Ram was the Patron of Kunihar Praja Mandal. At this meeting on 9 July 1939, the Thakur of Kunihar agreed to the establishment of a committee to investigate the grievances of the people. This was one of the first major steps towards self-government in the Shimla Hill States. Babu Kanshi Ram was one of the most important freedom fighters of Himachal Pradesh. He dedicated his life to the improvement of the lives of farmers in the princely state of Kunihar and made a significant impact on the freedom movement in Shimla Hill States.
